10 years ago while I was an undergraduate at LMU I was involved in a community arts program called ARTSmart, that helped bring art eduction to local schools. It is so exciting to see that the program is still going strong and bringing the joy of art to local school children.

Came across a great post on a blog, Muddy Colors
The post was by Gregory Manchess, and it talked about the 3 P’s, perfection, procrastination and paralysis. I know that I have encountered those P’s many times. It was encouraging to read about the 10 ways to push yourself past those roadblocks. Hope I can continue to remember those 10 things.

I listen to a recording regarding the future of the VFX industry, given by Industry giant Scott Ross, co-founder and former CEO of Digital Domain, at FMX2011. It was broken up into 5 parts and can be found here: The Future of the VFX Industry
Interesting to hear about where the industry has been and where its going. It was encouraging to hear him speak about how the top 20 all time movie blockbusters have been driven by content creators and not famous actors.
There was also a great quote mentioned about how art and business co-exist:
“The art is is nothing without the gift, but the gift is nothing without work” – Oscar Wilde
So its been about 7 years since I’ve been in a studio for some serious figure drawing. That drought ended today with a 6 hour session at Golden West Community College. Yes, 6 hours of drawing… broken up into two 3 hour sessions. Wow… I’ve forgotten how much fun drawing all day can be. I’ve also forgotten how exhausting it can be. Standing at my easel for 3 hours at a time, looking, observing and trying to make the marks on my paper represent what I see, really is physically and mentally draining. There is going to be another session next month, I think I’m going to sign up and give it a shot again. In the mean time, I need to make sure that I’m drawing a lot more. All of the time I spend working on a computer really takes away from the fun and joy of creating art with physical media. Spending the day with people who are creating with you was also very refreshing. Just a great day over all.
