Psych-A-Doodle: Update

Gallery

This gallery contains 16 photos.

In the beginning of the year I made a post about a daily drawing calendar called Psych-A-Doodle. Well, if I’m to be perfectly honest with myself, I’ve done an awful job keeping it up to date. I have recently been … Continue reading

New Media Academy

For the past 6+ months I’ve had the pleasure of being a business partner for Valley High School’s New Media Academy in Santa Anna. The other week they put on an appreciation celebration for the business partners, where we got to hear from faculty and students how our involvement had a positive affect on the students, program and campus in general. I have always enjoyed being able to give back to the arts. This experience has once again shown me that even a little bit of time can make a big difference to others.

iPad Self Portrait

Image

I recently got an an iPad and I have to say that I am really loving this digital device. I am able to draw and paint on it, read books, surf the web, watch videos, listen to music, take pictures and videos, take notes, play games etc. It is crazy how many things can be contained and done with one device in your hands. Not to mention how portable it is. There are a few things that I wish it did better, but at this point that’s just being a little too nitpicking. All in all I am a very happy digital nerd right now.
Hopefully this post will show up correctly with the self portrait, all done using the iPad. Drawing done using the Autodesk Sketchbook Pro App and a Wacom Bamboo pen. Blog post using the WordPress App for the iPad.

jamminART Business Cards

I wanted to bring some personal business cards to the Gnomon event a few weeks back. Thankfully I was able to get them designed and printed just in time for the event. A big thanks to Mike Shepherd, and his business Design Pros Inc. for getting them printed out with such short notice. Figure I might as well share the design here on the blog.

Eigooo

A while back my brother Peter decided to start a business called Eigooo, designed to help people learn English. He asked me to design him a logo and some business cards. After some design reviews and revisions we were able to come up with a final design for the logo and the business cards. With some help from my friend, Mike Shepherd, and his business Design Pros Inc. we got the cards printed and shipped over to Japan.  Eigooo_Business-Card_Pic

Gnomon Live – April 2013

I’m up, bright and early so I can make my way up to Hollywood to attend a 2 day workshop hosted by Gnomon School of VFX (Gnomon Live!). It’s going to have 10 instructors and be full of all sorts of awesome learning and inspiration. Looking forward to hearing so many talented folks talk about their work and process while being surrounded by like minded artist and maybe a few new friends.

I’m sure there will be more updates and pictures to follow over the next few days.

The Oscars & VFX

Link

It’s crazy to see that the film that won the Oscar for best VFX was completed by a VFX company (Rhythm & Hues) that recently declared bankruptcy. It is a sad day when the best of the best can no longer financially compete in an industry that relies on their talents to make all of these incredible movies.

CGW Magazine – Quote

Quote

Came across a great quote in Computer Graphics World magazine. This month’s issue is a VES Awards Prelude and was covering the work that has been nominated for awards. My current work isn’t in the entertainment industry, but the tools, techniques and workflow my colleagues and I use fall under the VFX umbrella. It is pretty incredible what we are capable of creating.

“Of all the craft areas in moviemaking, the VFX branch can boast the smartest and most highly educated practitioners, the most advanced technologies being applied, and the largest impart on the economics of storytelling in the digital age…”
